Head of IT/Lead Communications Workshop
Carl manages the virtual learning environment (Moodle), and the Communication Skills Workshop. In his IT role he provides technical support to the M&C team and the students in regard to dedicated emails and Moodle.
With Carl's experience he has instigated and created Moodle from scratch ensuring its smooth running for both the student and academic. Within Moodle is a Student Resource area which complements the Communication Skills Workshop covering subjects such as study skills, report writing skills, the use of Harvard Referencing to further enhance M&C's student's studies.
Educational Experience - Carl took a role as Technical Author in the Department of Engineering - Metallurgy & Materials in the Higher Education Sector. He assisted in the creation of learning material for distance learning at levels from National Certificate to BEng(Hons) degree.
Previous roles have been Education and Accreditation Manager where he was involved in implementing and co-ordinating the organisation's strategy for educational activities and all aspects of members' professional development within the UK and overseas.
Previous Experience - Past career roles which Carl has held include a Development Metallurgist where he was involved in Metallurgical assessment of aerospace and industrial equiaxed castings together with the preparation and presentation of metallurgical submission reports to blue chip companies such as: Rolls Royce, Asea Brown Boveri, Pratt & Whitney etc.
He has also held the position of Materials Analyst where his primary role was to analyse incoming raw materials such as, aluminium ingot, sands, resins and catalysts and using the required equipment such as ARL3460 Spectrometer and using real time radiography for defect determination in cast products.
As a Materials Analyst Module Leader, he was supervising a team of Materials Analysts and NDT Engineers and was the technical department trainer together with being actively involved in Health and Safety procedures.
More recently, he has been in a managerial role in an independent UKAS Materials Testing Laboratory where he was the foundry liaison to customers providing technical support on Metallurgy as well as performing metallurgical assessments and reporting of results on a range of ferrous and non-ferrous metal systems.
Quality Experience - As Quality Assurance Manager he was responsible for writing, updating and maintaining quality systems in line with ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025 and PED 97/23/EC. This involved auditing internal procedures - dimensional and visual inspection, hydro, pneumatic, gas and function testing, positive material identification, dye penetrant inspection in line with national, international and customer specifications.
Also, within these roles he was responsible for Material Conformity/Traceability & Material Certification to BS EN 10204 where he ensured verification of all incoming raw materials are to the Material Standard, this also involved the creation of Material Certification in line with BS EN 10204 Types 2.1, 2.2, 3.1 and 3.2.
