Bruce Stafford - MEd, BSc(Hons), PMICME, MIMMM, PGCE, SFHEA
Bruce provides M&C with Academic support and has been heavily involved with the development of the blended learning modules with the M&C course team from the conception.
Being in the educational sector, it is no surprise that Bruce continues with his own professional development with recently completing his Master's in Education Degree.
Bruce has worked in both the Industrial and Education Sectors, so his combined knowledge and practical experience is of great benefit to M&C.
During his career, Bruce has also worked in South Africa as a Plant Metallurgist for Rustenburg Platinum Mines from process troubleshooting and project development to identifying daily process limitations, average metallurgical assays were statistically monitored.
Whilst working in the industry Bruce developed his teaching skills delivering subjects such as: unit process plant operations and principles; and organisational goals with respect to differing structures ie Union/Management interaction and the consultative processes.
Within the Education Sector, Bruce further developed his lecturing skills and achieved accreditation in BTEC, HND, HNC and Foundation Degree programmes.
Whilst working in the Higher Education Sector, he has delivered metallurgical-based topics since 1993 within the Metallurgy and Materials section for Level 2 and Level 3 courses in subjects of Information Technology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Metallurgy & Materials.
One of his successes was developing an "Open College" course, naming it 'Introduction to Technology' and upon its completion analysis showed that there was a 30% increase in overall retention.
His main interest was developing and designing blended learning as a distance learning vehicle for two foundation degrees with pathways to the BEng(Hons) Metallurgy and Materials using the virtual (managed) learning environment (VLE/MLE), ie Moodle.
Bruce has delivered workshop sessions at the SPaCE-Ed Conference, on ELGG and Moodle, 2008.
